Geocaching 101

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Join us for this one night workshop, find out how geocaching can be a fun, easy way to get exercise for your body and your mind! If you have a smartphone, you can geocache. In this class, we will go over all the symbols, acronyms, and types of geocaches and how to log them. There’s a whole world of geocaching information waiting to be discovered and we’ll make it easy for you. The first session will be in the classroom and in the second we will go off-site where we will set out to discover a geocache of your own.

Grow Your Own Organic Garden - MOFGA

We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. We’ll cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. We’ll show you how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds. Learn basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests. We will even send you home with free seeds! All are welcome.

Opioid Overdose Recognition and Response Training

Lizzy Garnatz, LCSW, City of Portland, Community Health Promotion Specialist; Maegan Lambert-Irish, LCPC, CADC, Saco-Biddeford Opiate Outreach Liaison, People Recover, and Laura Overton, Program Director, Substance Use Prevention, Coastal Health Communities Coalition The overdose prevention workshop covers a brief history of opioids, and how to respond to an opioid overdose. You will learn risk factors for overdose, recognizing signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, activating an emergency response, administration of naloxone, and follow up care. Hear from local prevention professionals regarding the resources that are available in Northern York County, and the programs that are available specifically for youth substance use prevention. No discounts.
