with Mary Lou Tracy

Calendar Feb 1, 2021 at 7 pm, runs for 10 weeks

Join adult education’s long-running book club as we discuss a variety of books: contemporary and classic, fiction and non-fiction. For the first meeting on February 1, we’ll read Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. Bring three book suggestions for those early meetings so we can build a reading list for the spring. You must register with the adult ed office via our website.

About Mary Lou: In her career as a librarian, Mary Lou has worked in public, elementary, and high school settings. She always loved to read, so it seemed a natural fit to her to coordinate a book club. It’s been going strong for 23 years! Class meets every other Monday.

Recycling: From Bin to Bale via Zoom

with Vanessa Berry

Have you ever thought about what happens to your “stuff” after you put it out on the curb, or take it to the dump? Take a guided virtual tour through ecomaine’s "Single Sort Recycling Facility" and learn where “away” really is! See how we sort your soup cans and laundry bottles, and learn why “Wish-Cycling” is costing you money. Bring any questions you have about recycling, including examples of items you’re not sure if you can recycle or not. No discounts.

About Vanessa: Vanessa Berry joined the ecomaine team in August of 2018 to provide education and resources to member communities and residents as an environmental educator. Born and raised in Maine, Vanessa graduated in 2015 from UMaine Farmington with a B.S. in Elementary Education, and now uses her teaching background and passion for the environment to help Mainers of all ages follow the famous 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, then Recycle! When she’s not educating residents around Maine on recycling, Vanessa stays busy walking the sandy shores of Old Orchard Beach, hiking in Western Maine, volunteering with environmental advocacy groups, and pursuing a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability.
