Power Yoga: Option 1

Power Yoga blends Vinyasa & strength building yoga styles to increase functional flexibility, strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular endurance through seated, standing & balancing poses, as well as cardio bursts & flowing sequences. All levels are welcome! Please bring a mat with you to class.

About Jillene: Jillene Jones is the owner of Pure Prana Yoga and has been a Registered Yoga Teacher since 2012. Her classes focus on creative breath and body awareness and fusing a wide variety of yoga styles into her program. She also uses modifications as needed for student skill and comfort levels. Jillene has been trained in a number of meditation techniques, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Iyengar Based Yoga, restorative Yoga, Adaptive Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Yoga Nidra. In addition to her yoga training, Jillene is a certified Buti Yoga, Hotcore, Barre Above, Balletone and Fitness instructor as well as a Reiki Master.

Easy Does it Quilted Zippered Bag

Learn how to professionally sew this quilted zippered bag with handles and matching eyeglass case as a bonus. Quilting the fabric, inserting a zipper, adding handles and binding the seams will be learned in this sewing class. Store your favorite things or make many and give as gifts. Materials fee of $8 to be paid to the instructor at the first class (Kit includes a 14” wide zipper, white, black, or beige, and special foam batting for the bag). Supply list available from adult ed office.

About Jaki: Jaki Soper has been sewing and quilting for over 40 years. She is the owner of Quilt Studio 55, a local business that supports long arm services, studio classes, and custom quilt designs. Her classes are comprised of learning simple techniques which allow for truing up sewn units to achieve accuracy. If you are interested in mastering the flying geese units in the placemat class, or sewing with curves in the drunkard path class, then these classes are for you.

Drawing & Acrylic Painting for Beginners

Begin practicing basic drawing skills and understand how to mix colors. Move on to using different painting techniques by studying various artists’ painting styles and their memorable works. Each class will help you understand how to balance shadows and highlights to bring out details in your drawings and paintings. The paintings you make will be memorable keepsakes to save or give as gifts. Supply list available at adult ed office.

About Sue: Susan is an artist who lived many years in France studying the Impressionists' painting methods (Renoir, Monet, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Pissarro, Picasso and Matisse). She teaches how to apply their techniques in easy to learn steps for beginners and intermediate painters as part of regular classes held at the adult ed department for enhanced learning.

Computers for Real Beginners

This course is perfect for you if you have not used the computer before. We will introduce you to the computer (desktop or laptop) and its components, the Windows operating system and how to customize and use your desktop. We’ll introduce you to the Internet, e- mailing, and Microsoft Word as well.

About Alan: Alan has worked in the Information Technology field for over 35 years with several major corporations and is highly experienced in using and teaching beginner and advanced classes in all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel. He holds a BS degree in Computer Information Systems from Bryant University as well as an MBA from Providence College.

Sewing for Beginners I Daytime Class

Calendar Mar 5, 2024 at 10 am, runs for 8 weeks

Start at the beginning. Learn to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and sew an accurate ¼ inch seam. Make simple projects every week starting with an ugly potholder. Have fun and learn at your own pace while building your skills and gaining confidence. Move on to making your own pillowcase, using the “hot dog” method and learning a French seam. You will need to purchase your own fabric for pillowcases and have basic sewing supplies, needles, thread, scissors and a working sewing machine with manual. The instructor will provide material for all other projects and has a sewing machine available for use.

About Lori: Lori got started sewing because her daughter wanted a quilt when she was in kindergarten after she had heard a story about a quilt. She was 5 years old. She’s been sewing ever since, for over 15 years! Lori also loves being able to share her knowledge of sewing with beginners who are just starting out as well as others who are learning new tricks of the trade. “Teaching the correct way to use sewing machines to create clothing, display items used for decoration and practical items to use around the house or to give as gifts is such a rewarding experience.”

Empowerment Self Defense for Adults

Raise your awareness, enhance your safety skills and discover strengths you never knew you had. This introduction to Empowerment Self Defense is both serious and fun. Gain confidence, awareness, and verbal and physical skills to navigate challenging interactions at work, home, and in the public. Verbal skills include: assertive communication and boundary setting, de-escalation, and active bystander intervention. Physical self defense skills cover unwanted touch, basic strikes, and grab defenses and are adaptable and accessible to all regardless of fitness level. A great experience to share with a friend! Open to adults of all genders and identities.

About Clara: Clara Porter, is the founder of Prevention. Action. Change and has nearly 30 years of experience in the field of violence prevention. She holds a Masters of Social Work, is certified in Empowerment Self Defense with both the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation and Center for Antiviolence Education, as well as in Advanced Trauma First Aide. Clara loves helping people gain the skills and confidence to live big lives free from fear and harm.

About Brigit: Brigit McCallum is an Instructor with Prevention Action Change. A lifelong teacher and coach, Brigit has taught in programs ranging from Pre-K to PhD, and coached in sports, fitness and recreation programs. She lives in Waterboro, where she is active in the Waterboro Community Garden, and also teaches mosaic art and gardening classes in a number of local Adult Ed Programs.

Chair Seat Weaving

Transform your broken chair into a useful and attractive addition to your home. This class is for splint woven seats or seats with cane woven through holes around the edge of the chair seat. Bring a plastic bucket, scissors and a chair. Material fee of $30 to be paid directly to the instructor first night for pegs and cane.
