Learn the basics of sewing with us. Start by threading a machine, winding a bobbin and accurately sewing a ¼” seam. We’ll introduce you to the different types of threads and needles and even how to clean your sewing machine. Make simple projects to build your skills and gain self-confidence then move on to making your own pillowcases. You must have a working sewing machine, needles and thread to bring to class. Please purchase your own fabric to make the pillowcases for the last two weeks of class. The instructor has a machine available for student use. 8 weeks

Sewing for Beginners II - a.m.

Build on your knowledge of the ¼ inch seam and create more intricate projects, like a Mason jar bag that has a gathered tie, a microwave cozy, or a hot iron carrier/ironing mat. You’ll learn the basics of rotary cutting and reading simple patterns. You should have basic sewing supplies such as needles, thread and a seam ripper, a rotary cutter, cutting mat and rulers for the class. You will need to purchase all fabric for this class. The first project will be a Mason jar bag for a quart jar. The instructor has a machine available for student use during class. Materials list available from adult ed office. Prerequisite: Sewing for Beginners or equivalent knowledge of sewing. 8 weeks

Materials list: (2) Pieces of fabric 8" by 14" for outer layer

(2) Pieces of fabric 8" by 14" lining

(2) 25" lengths of 3/8" ribbon or 1/2" wide coordinating fabric

Sewing for Fun a.m.

Like to laugh and learn? Join us for this fun class and expand your sewing skills at the same time while working on several small projects, Create a small zippered bag with a clear plastic window that finishes 7” x 8 ½”. It has a zippered closure and can be made any size once you have mastered how to sew in the plastic window. Next, make a small wall quilt using some wool pieces added by hand and then adding borders. This class is open to anyone who knows how to sew. The projects are designed to strengthen your skills. If you have a project that is unfinished, bring it to class and the teacher will provide guidance on how to finish it. The instructor has two machines available. Materials list available from adult ed office. 8 weeks

Materials list: This zippered bag can be used for cosmetics, sewing supplies or anything else one wishes to store! It is a fun project and can be made any size once a student makes one. It is also so easy to make!

Two fat quarters makes 2 bags.

Clear plastic and zipper supplied free by the instructor.

Bake your cake and sew it, too! Learn how to sew 8” finished squares using a Miss Rosie’s Cake Mix Recipe! We will be using cake mix recipe Number 1 and 10” squares of fabric. This is a new, accurate and fast technique for paper piecing and a snap to learn and sew the squares together! You will need a sewing machine, scissors, and thread for this class. Materials list available from adult ed office. 8 weeks

Fabric needed is 42, 10" squares either purchased as a layer cake

and a second 10" layer cake of solid colors that coordinate with the other layer cake fabric package.

You can cut your own if you wish.
