Iyengar Yoga: Session 2

Reduce stress, tension, and pain while increasing flexibility, alignment and body awareness in this gentle, slow-paced class that works for people of all ages and physical abilities. Iyengar Yoga promotes well being, strength and a positive mind. We will use a balance of standing, seated and restorative poses in each class. You will perform a mixture of active and passive poses, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Please wear comfortable clothing. If you have a mat, please bring it. Lizzy Garnatz, LCSW, City of Portland, Community Health Promotion Specialist; Maegan Lambert-Irish, LCPC, CADC, Saco-Biddeford Opiate Outreach Liaison, People Recover, and Laura Overton, Program Director, Substance Use Prevention, Coastal Health Communities Coalition The overdose prevention workshop covers a brief history of opioids, and how to respond to an opioid overdose. You will learn risk factors for overdose, recognizing signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, activating an emergency response, administration of naloxone, and follow up care. Hear from local prevention professionals regarding the resources that are available in Northern York County, and the programs that are available specifically for youth substance use prevention. Strips and Strings Scrap Quilt

Choose a theme or use up your strips of scraps to make this quilt. We will be sewing strips of various sizes on a muslin background to create this fabulous looking quilt. Make the quilt the size you desire from baby to king size. Learn rotary cutting techniques, sewing with a scant quarter inch, truing up squares, and basic construction of a quilt. Come to join the fun. 2 Weeks Supply list available at Adult Education office.

Supply list:

• Leisure Arts Book “Warmth & Wisdom”, Legacy of Scrap Quilts, by Sandra Case

• Fabric for the Strips and Strings Quilt: 4 yards of muslin for foundation fabric (or enough scraps of muslin to make 48 - 10 “ square blocks ) 48 blocks will make a quilt approximately 62” x 80”. More fabric is necessary for a larger quilt.

• 20 fat quarters of various leftover strips of fabrics, in varying widths( 1 ½ “, 2”, and/or 2 ½” )

• Sewing Machine in good working order

• Your sewing kit ( scissors, riper, threads, pins, bobbins, extra machine needles, etc)

• Rotary cutter (and cutting mat if you have one)

• 6” x 12” rectangle ruler

• 9 ½ “ x 9 ½ “ square ruler, necessary for ease of squaring up blocks

• personal small iron and ironing pad (board) optional

• invisagrip plastic is very helpful for bottom of rulers

• 50 wt thread to match your fabric ( I use gray colored thread when piecing) Preparation

• Wash, dry, STARCH, and iron all cotton fabric before class. (Starching the fabric helps tremendously when sewing the fabric together)
